Spain, and specifically Rioja, is one of my go-to region for good value wines. This includes reds, whites, and rose’ wines. I appreciate them because they are elegant, not too high in alcohol, age worthy, complex, and have some oak notes that are not too overpowering. Here is a review of a new red released from a reference producer, Bodegas Muga. This is 70% Tempranillo and 30% Garnacha.
Dry red wine, 14.5%. High opacity (cannot see through) with ruby color rims. Medium-high intensity nose, with blackberries, blueberries, vanilla bean, cigar box. The oak is well integrated with the fruit. Full body, concentrated flavors that echo the nose, smooth, and a never ending finish.
This wine is stunning. Rich, exploding with dark fruit, yet balanced and graceful. A must try! And what a great value!!
