2019 ColleMassari Montecucco Rosso Riserva [Rating: 5/5| $18]

Tasted on February 7, 2025. #DailyWine #dnardi #Wine #WineLovers #Sangiovese #Tuscany #Montecucco #ColleMassari

This wine is from an up and coming wine appellation in Tuscany. This is near Montalcino and the wines are based on Sangiovese, with other grapes permitted in small quantities. This is a very acclaimed producer that also owns other properties in Tuscany that are more established (and command higher prices). Given the quality of this particular wine, I bet this will soon become much more sought out and its price will increase dramatically. As of now, it is a great bargain. This Montecucco Riserva is 80% Sangiovese, 10% Colorino, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in wood.

Dry red wine, 14.5% alcohol. Medium-dark opacity, ruby with hints of purple. Medium intensity nose, with red fruit, eucalyptus, and hints of candied apple, spices and cedar. Full body, smooth with an ethereal texture. The flavors are concentrated, and the fruit and wood are very well balanced. Finishes very long.

I would totally confuse this for a Barolo.

This wine is elegant, smooth, and delicious. What a value! It reminds me of my favorite wine – Castell’in Villa Chianti Classico. And that is one of the best things I can say about a wine.

Second tasting on March 24, 2025. This wine impresses for the aromatics and how smooth it is. I am upgrading the score to 5/5.
