2021 Tommasi “Rafael” Valpolicella Classico Superiore [Rating: 3/5 | $18]

Tasted on January 5, 2025. #DailyWine #dnardi #Corvina #Veneto #Valpolicella #ValpolicellaClassico #Tommasi

Dry red wine, 12.5% alcohol. Medium-high opacity, garnet color. Medium intensity nose, display raisins, green pepper, flowers. Light body, this wine has a considerable amount of residual sugar, which makes the wine very rich. There is a good acidity to counteract. The sensation of sweetness lingers on, into a long finish with dried plums.

This tastes more like a ripasso (a baby Amarone) than a Valpolicella. It is slightly sweet and very rich. This makes it a decadent and appealing wine, if you like the style. For me, it’s a bit too much, but many will love it.
