I cannot believe I haven’t reviewed any Riesling yet. It is time. And I am starting with an iconic producer from Germany, in the Mosel region. Rieslings are admired for their aromas, complexity, acidity, age-worthyness, and versatility. They come in many styles, from bone dry (called trocken) to dessert wine style (ice wine). The Kabinett is an off-dry version, extremely food friendly and light.
Off-dry white wine, 9% alcohol. Very pale, lemon color. Medium-high intensity nose, with dry apricot, apple, and a whiff of paint. Light body, intense aromas in the palate, good acidity to counteract the residual sugar. Very ripe flavors even in the palate, that persist long after swallowing.
Very ripe fruit aromas, veering towards dried fruit. Good amount of residual sugar, but it is not cloying nor heavy on the palate. Rather, it is fresh, light, and lip smacking good. If you think you don’t like slightly sweet white wines, try this. Paired with salty food it is a great match; and by itself, it’s just delicious.
