Some wine reviews are easier to find than others. The Barbaresco from Adriano Marco e Vittorio are under the radar for how good they are. In some vintages (like 2019), the reviews can easily be found. In others, like this one of 2018, the reviews are few and difficult to find. Why is that? Is it because some vintages get more media attention, or because some wines are genuinely better in some vintages than others? I don’t have an answer, but I was curious how this tasted so I grabbed a couple of bottles on sale. I really liked the 2019 (and you can find that review on my website); how would this compare?
Dry red wine, 14.5% alcohol. Medium opacity, garnet color. Medium intensity nose, showing red fruit, orange peel, sage, and iron. Full body, concentrated flavors, big structure, but it has smooth texture. The tannins are ripe. Long finish with red apple and raspberry.
Even in a lesser vintage, this wine is amazing. It is balanced and smooth, yet the wine is big, and more powerful than the 2019. There is no perception of heat, and it has great aromatics. I slightly prefer the 2019 because it is more elegant, but if you like a bolder style, this is a knock out.
