2022 Ampeleia Toscana Rosato [Rating: 4/5 | $19]

Tasted on June 3, 2024. #DailyWine #dnardi #rose #Tuscany #Ampeleia

This wine is weird. In a good way. I had to taste it twice because the first time it seemed off (slightly oxydated). But it’s not off. It’s just different. It is a blend of Alicante (Garnacha or Grenanche) and Carignano grapes.

Dry rose’ wine, 11.5% alcohol. Medium opacity (for a rose’ wine), with a red/orange color. The wine is not completely clear; it has some torbidity. Medium intensity nose, with ripe red fruit, orange peel, and floral notes. Light body, yet concentrated flavors in the palate. This is medium acidity, and very juicy. The finish is subtle but long. It has a hint of bitter/vinegar/wild gamy aromas in the end, which might turn off many people. To me, this is so subtle that it doesn’t bother me – I actually like it.

This is a very light rose’, not even hitting 12% alcohol. Yet, it is tasty and juicy, with lots of aromatic complexity.
