2020 San Felice Chianti Classico Riserva “Il Grigio” [Rating: 4.5/5 | $23]

Tasted on May 8, 2024. #DailyWine #dnardi #Sangiovese #Tuscany #Chianti #ChiantiClassico #SanFelice #Value

When I was thinking I should turn to different wines and not drink only Chianti Classico, this wine made me think again.

Dry red wine, 13.5% alcohol. Medium-dark opacity, pomegranate color. Medium-high intensity nose, displaying black cherries, plums, and strawberries. In all this, there is an accent of leather, or better, cheese. I know it sounds weird, but a note of earthy aromas amidst all the fruit is actually very appealing and adds complexity. Medium body, very good concentration of flavors in the palate. Dark fruit, smoke, and incense appear. Smooth, long finish, with well integrated tannins.

This wine is impressive for concentration (black cherries dominating) and complexity. For a Chianti Classico Riserva in the $20 price range, it is a steal.
