A juicy, aromatic, and balanced Garnacha. I cannot think of a better value wine at this price. If you can, please let me know.

This wine is made with 100% Garnacha, also known as Cannonau in Italy and Grenanche in France. The wines tend to be big and high in alcohol (even more than 15%). However, this bottle comes from a winery that farms Garnacha at high altitude (450 m or 1500 ft), which results in more elegant wines. Vina Zorzal makes many different levels of Garnacha. This is their entry level. They all tend to be inexpensive and real values.

Dry red wine, 13% alcohol. Medium opacity, ruby color. Medium intensity nose, with strawberry, cherry, and rosemary. The fruit is very concentrated. Same aromas in the palate, which is medium in body, and fills your mouth with vibrant acidity. Long finish with dried strawberries.

Perfectly balanced with the alcohol, acidity, and flavors. What a great wine and value! I have always found it difficult to find a Garnacha that was not too over the top fruity and with too much heat. This wine reinstates my faith in this grape variety: taste and elegance can both be present in Garnacha.
