DailyWine Wines of the Year MMXXIII

January 3, 2024

After reflecting on the past year, I want to share the favorite wines I have tasted. But before that, some quick thoughts:

  • The more I drink wine, the more I realize that I do not need to spend a lot of $$ to drink exceptional wines. Actually, although I am buying more quantity and quality of wine, I am spending less per bottle. This is because I learned to hunt for bargains, and I share my knowledge in this blog.
  • The more I drink wine, the more I realize that I like elegant wines more than powerful ones. I am very sensitive to the heat sensation from alcohol and don’t like feeling the heat in the palate when drinking wine. Wine is not liquor.
  • Chianti Classico was still my go-to category of red wines in 2023. They are great values that combine elegance, concentration, and age-worthyness – not easy to find around the globe. For white wines, Verdicchio is still my favorite, with its bright acidity and intense citrus aromas. And rose’ wines continue to impress me for their pleasure and flexibility with food.
  • Finally, the 2019 vintage for Barolo and Barbaresco is exceptional. I need to stock up πŸ™‚

So here are my wines of the year, with my reviews linked:

White wine of the year: 2022 Tiberio Trebbiano d’Abruzzo ($21)

Rose’ wine of the year: 2022 Tiberio Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo ($21)

Red wines of the year: 2021 Selvapiana Chianti Rufina ($19) and 2019 Molino Barolo ($35)
