When someone pops an aged wine for your birthday, it’s always memorable. When it happens to be your birth year vintage, it is special. Today my twin nephews turned 16 year old, and I couldn’t think of popping a more fitting wine in their honor.
Dry red wine, 14% alcohol. Medium opacity. Red with slight brick notes. The nose is a bit shy initially, showing red fruit and hints of animal notes/cheese. Medium body, elegantly smooth. Faint accents of caramel are stating to develop, but this is still dominated by fruit and fruit preserved in alcohol. Long finish. Charming wine.
I don’t remember exactly how this wine tasted upon release (i.e., in 2012), but it seems to have gained in texture to become smoother.
