How does an 18 year old Gattinara taste like? Amazing.
Dry red wine, 13.5% alcohol. Burnt ruby color, medium opacity. Very intense nose, with lots of fruit, rose, but also with truffle. The fruit is very evident, with cherry, raspberry and other red fruit. Medium body, nice concentration with dusty tannins, and very smooth. The finish is delicious and long.
Trying older wines is always a gamble because defects can develop or accumulate. I personally tasted a lot of old, spoiled wines. This one, however, is singing! Very aromatic and smooth, and still very primary (dominated by fruit). The only sign of aging is the note of truffle. If you can, put aside some of these for the future. You will be rewarded.
