Dry red wine, 13% alcohol. Medium-high opacity, with ruby rims. Medium intensity nose, with an initial strong note of barnyard, horse blanket, and tomato leaf. Some dark fruit is buried under there and slowly emerges. Black cherry, plums, and some tobacco. Medium body, with strong acidity that makes the wine very fresh. Long and appealing finish with prunes and tobacco. The aromas make you think it will be fuller body and sweeter, instead it has lighter weight and no sweetness at all.
After some time in the glass (quite a bit of time), those off putting aromas of barnyard and stinky cheese go away, leaving pure plum and black cherries. Quite impressive purity of fruit.
I am a big fan of Aglianico wines, but they are difficult to find in the United States. This one, however, has that initial strong barnyard flavor that might turn a few people off.
