A sangiovese blend that started when it was not a fad.
I already reviewed the 2018 vintage of this wine. Capezzana is a reference producer of Carmignano. In this appellation, the wines are mainly sangiovese (e.g., 80%) and the rest cabernet sauvignon. This makes you think they are new wines that follow the trend of using international grape varieties. On the contrary, this wine predates any possible fad, as the planting of cabernet sauvignon in Carmignano happened more than 200 years ago.
Dry red wine, 14.5% alcohol. Pomegranate rim, very opaque. Medium intensity nose, dominated by red and black currant, some blueberries. In the mouth other aromas emerge: coffee, chocolate, and some Mediterranean herbs. Full body, with concentrated flavors, perfectly balanced acidity. Plenty of ripe tannins that indicate a long aging potential. Long finish with typical sangiovese aromas of red fruit (I always get jujubes). The concentration of fruit plus the very subtle oak notes make this wine very appealing. It is rich but balanced. An amazing wine and a steal.
