In a wine, do you seek more strong aromatics or mouth-coating texture? If the latter, this is for you.
Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo is a reference producer of nebbiolo based wines in the Ghemme appellation, in northern Piedmont. This is their rose’ wine, made with 100% nebbiolo. While their reds are very famous – spanning from entry-level pricing to very expensive – also this rose’ is worth checking out. It is one of my go-to rose’ wines.
Dry rose’ wine, 13% alcohol. Copper-pinkish color, extremely pale. Delicate aromas of raspberry, cauliflower, and menthol. Takes time to open up. Beautiful mouthfeel, with smooth texture and a light body. The acidity is there, but it’s not harsh and coats your palate. Finishes long, with hints of caramel. Maybe it is in a weird phase, but aromatically it is a bit shut down. No intense flavors. This wine is whispered. Yet, it is delicious to drink because of the balance and smooth palate.
