2018 Felsina Chianti Classico Riserva [Rating: 4/5 | $30]

This is the second of two wines that made me fall in love with Chianti Classico (the other one is Castell’in Villa, reviewed here). The producer, Felsina, makes extremely good wine all across the range, from the “basic” $20 Chianti Classico all the way up to their top-level Riserva Rancia (which costs 3 times as much). This wine reviewed here is positioned in the middle of the range, and has a great quality/price ratio.

The color is ruby, medium-dark. Medium intense nose, with dark fruit, like plum, and red berries like raspberry. There is also a whiff of the characteristic barnyard aromas that very frequently you can find with Sangiovese. The attractiveness of the nose lies in the purity of the fruit: no jamminess, no baked aromas. Just pure, fresh fruit. The mouthfeel has medium-light texture, with vibrant acidity that compliments the rich fruit. The finish presents dark fruit and is very persistent.
