2022 Tiberio Trebbiano d’Abruzzo [Rating: 5/5 | $21]

I already reviewed two wines from this producer, Tiberio. This is their entry level Trebbiano d’Abruzzo; they also make a much more expensive, higher-end Trebbiano. It is worth mentioning that, unlike the majority of producers in the Abruzzo region, this wine is made with 100% Trebbiano abruzzese grapes. This grape is more aromatic and just more interesting than other varieties of Trebbiano (e.g., Trebbiano toscano), which instead are used by most of the other producers.

So, as explained by the famous expert in Italian wine Ian d’Agata, when considering the Trebbaino grape variety, consider it a family of grape varieties, just like there is a family of Pinot grapes (Pinot bianco, Pinot Grigio, Pinot noir). In the Trebbiano family, not all of them are equally highly regarded, and the Trebbiano abruzzese is a very sought after grape.

This specific wine is pale yellow color. It has a very intense nose of apple, pineapple, grass, and some mineral notes. Great texture, with vibrant acidity that coats your palate. Medium body. It is very well balanced with the intense aromatics. Finishes with a long persistence of almonds and green apple. Reminds me of a Verdicchio or a Riesling, but a bit smoother and with slightly less acidity at the end.
