This is another wine from the producer “Tiberio”, which I visited last summer and is a rising star in the Italian wine scene. I already reviewed their Cerasuolo and gave a bit of background in that review (here). This is their “basic” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.
Usually I let wines breath a bit inside the bottle, but this time I didn’t have as much time. It was not a pop-and-pour, but ideally you would want this to breath for hours, not 30 minutes. Dark color, opaque. Blackberries and some herbs in the nose. Very expressive in the mouth, with concentrated dark fruit and a touch of sweetness. Texturally, this is rich, full body, and with medium acidity (for comparison, lower than sangiovese). Figs and other dark fruit appear in the finish. A bit too ripe and rich, probably from the warm vintage (reminds me of a Valpolicella), but some people will love this.
