2018 Scavino Barolo [Rating: 3/5 | $42]

Barolo’s are not inexpensive, but this wine was relatively affordable so I took a chance to try it. The 2018 vintage for Barolo is not regarded as top tier. If anything, it is considered a lesser vintage, with wines that are in my opinion a touch too high in alcohol (some reaching 15%).

Ruby color, with a shade of brick, medium intensity. The nose is a bit closed. What you get is pretty aromas of flowers, apple, strawberry, amarena (tart cherry), and pan di spagna cake. Full body, nice acidity and quite tannic, as expected from a young Barolo. Long finish. Gets better with air. A bit too high in alcohol and low in concentration.
