This producer, Mauro Molino, is from the Langhe region in Piedmont and makes a lot of good, value-driven wines. The most notorious are probably their different Barolo bottlings. This is their entry-level red wine, meant for everyday consumption. It is a blend mainly of Barbera and Merlot. These two grape varieties (especially Merlot) tend to make softer wines, meaning with less acidity and tannins.
The color of this wine is purple, medium intensity. Initially there are some dark fruits and hints of vegetable (that become fainter as you let it breath). Also some attractive notes of dried apricots and orange peel. The concentration of flavors in the mouth is remarkable. Nice lingering aftertaste with plum and blackberries. A bit softer and rounder than I prefer, but a lot of people actually seek this in wines.
