I recently reviewed another wine (the review is here) from the same producer, C.V.N.E., which makes great wines from Rioja, in Spain. I will not repeat my praises for this producer, but I will say again that if you see one of these wines, it is a safe bet and a great value to buy.
This is their new rose’ wine, made from 100% Tempranillo, and it is a very distinct rose’. To begin with, the color of the wine alone is sufficient to justify spending $16. It is a marvelous, bright pomegranate color. The color is very intense and mesmerizing. The nose is unique, because instead of fruit, it presents a lot of spices and dessert-like aromas: Italian confetti, celery, star anise, fennel, and licorice. Yet the wine is bone dry. There is also some red fruit (cherries), but really it is not dominant. The wine is lighter body, crisp and balanced, and the taste lingers for long. A very aromatic rose’ and one that you will remember.
