2021 Poggio Scalette Chianti Classico [Rating: 4/5 | $19]

This is another Chianti Classico that I recommend. I’ve had this multiple times and at $16-19 it is a great value.

The producer Poggio Scalette is renown for its top tier Carbonaione wine (which cost around $50), but this is an amazing value that delivers a lot of pleasure too.

Each time I try this wine I am impressed by the purity of the fruit. Blackberries, specifically. It’s not jammy, it’s not dried fruit, it’s fresh blackberries. There are also lots of other notes that make it more complex, like rosemary and dust, but the dominant aroma is definitely blackberry. Just like all Chiantis, it has lots of acidity that keep it light on your palate and make your mouth water. It is medium body, juicy, and pairs well with grilled meats (not heavy on BBQ sauce though). Cheers!
